About Us

Prostate Cancer Guernsey

The objectives of Prostate Cancer Guernsey are:

  1. To raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage early detection.
  2. To provide a forum for discussion and support to those in Guernsey diagnosed with prostate cancer and others affected by the disease
  3. To provide a forum for those interested in the disease.

How we Started

Prostate Cancer Guernsey was set up in 2011 to replace The Orchidians set up in 2004 by two men who were diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. (Richard Keen and John Dempster). They appreciated how important it was for them to talk to other men who had been diagnosed to find out the treatment others had had and the choices others had made. For them, getting help involved talking around friends and family to find those who could help.

They felt that a support group would be valuable to bring all those with Prostate Cancer together to help each other meet the challenges the disease presents.

In 2011 the Rules were changed to adopt the new  name and to enable the charity to raise funds for support, research and treatment of prostate cancer and to create awareness of the disease.

As a result of the AGM held on 17/3/2016 and the subsequent EGM held on 12/4/2016 the rules have again been changed to reflect changing needs.
